MARY MORELAND
Author Mary Moreland is a lawyer and a single parent of two teenage sons. Together, they share a dog, a cat, a turtle, and a fish. Currently raising her family and practicing law in Houston, Moreland has spent the bulk of her 25-year legal career working on transactions outside the United States, principally in Latin America.
In addition to her transactional work, Moreland has vast experience in ethics and compliance matters, having served as chief compliance officer for two publicly traded international companies. She was recognized by the Houston Business Journal’s Corporate Counsel Awards as a two-time finalist for Best Associate General Counsel, and has been ranked among DMARS’ Top 30 Influential Women of Houston.
Moreland graduated cum laude from Washington & Lee University and Tulane University School of Law, where she earned both her law degree and a Certificate in Maritime Law. She is now the co-founder of the J. Marvin Moreland, Jr. ‘56 and Mary Louise Moreland ‘91 Scholarship Endowment at Washington & Lee, which aids and encourages Texas students seeking to attend the school. Moreland is dedicated to serving youth in her home state, and she also volunteers as a Child Advocate with the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights, acting as a friend and liaison for children who would otherwise be navigating the immigration process alone.
The Gap Between: Loving and Supporting Someone with Alzheimer’s marks Moreland’s debut as an author, and conveys a moving, deeply personal portrait of her family’s journey through the disease. Offering first-hand insights, the book reflects her commitment to supporting others caring for an Alzheimer’s patient.
